NEW YORK, NY, April 13, 2023—EcoPlum®, a sustainable promotional products company, announces today that Gia Machlin, its President & CEO, will co-chair with Dr. Sandi Webster the first ever New York City Young
Enterprising Women Mentoring Forum for high school girls in
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and STEAM (adding the Arts). Presented
by the Enterprising Women Foundation, the event takes place on April 20, 2023 in
Harlem at Columbia Secondary School for Math, Science, and Engineering--a
public school partnered with Columbia University.
The
Enterprising Women Foundation Mentoring Program provides high school girls
across the U.S. and Canada with an opportunity to meet and connect with
outstanding women entrepreneurs in their community at a local event. These
events are designed to recognize the leadership potential of the young women
participants, inspire them to dream big, and provide a focus on opportunities
in STEM and STEAM, an
educational model that includes science-based fields, a wide-range of the arts,
and creative problem solving.
The
inaugural New York City mentoring forum at Columbia Secondary School for Math,
Science, and Engineering (CSS) will be highly interactive
and include a panel of business leaders, roundtable discussions, a financial
literacy breakout session, and a scholarship announcement. Ten diverse women
mentors and over 50 young women from the high school are expected to
participate in the three-hour event. Two of the students will win scholarships
sponsoring their attendance at this year’s Annual Enterprising Women of the Year
Awards,
May
21-22 in Clearwater, Florida. Airfare, transportation, hotel, meals, and
incidentals will be covered for each winner and an accompanying parent or adult
chaperone.
Gia
Machlin, forum Co-Chair, said:
“I am so excited
for our mentors to inspire, and be inspired by, these fabulous young women in STEM
at a New York City high school that collaborates with my alma mater, Columbia
University.”
Ms.
Machlin will open the event with a welcome to attendees and the introduction of
Dr. Sandi Webster, forum Co-Chair and CEO of Sandi Webster LLC. Then Monica
Smiley, Editor & Publisher at Enterprising Women magazine, and foundation
founder, will greet the students with CSS Principal Vikram Arora, host of the forum,
and Roxana Bosch, forum liaison for the school.
Dr.
Webster will moderate a mentor panel discussion with six successful
businesswomen. These entrepreneurs and leaders will share their unique stories,
offer advice for success in STEM/STEAM, and take questions. After the panel
discussion, there will be ten small group mentoring roundtable discussions,
each led by one of the participating mentors.
